Hello, America Post 1

Quote 1:

Pg. 24, Elli, " Will I ever be like an American teenager and throw out a perfectly good pair of shoes because of a slight flaw?"

This quote relates to question number six because Elli is really confused how someone could just throw away really fancy shoes just because they rip. When she had to wear one pair of shoes in the death camps even when they were too small for her. I think that Elli feels like this because she can't believe that in America someone could have all these luxuries. Elli still remembers when she suffered back in Germany.

I think that Elli is a very good person and she is nice to everyone. If I was in her position I would fell the same, I would be shocked after coming from Germany to see a person throwing away shoes for such a little thing.

How do you think you would fell if you were in Elli's position?

Quote 2:

Pg. 16, Bubi, "Elli! Is it really you? I can barely recognize you. You've grown...changed....Where's Mommy?"

This quote relates to question number four because it's not really a challenge but when Elli gets off the ship she sees her brother and he can barely recognize her after such a long time. When he sees her the second thing he wants to know is where his Mom is, I could imagine not seeing your mom for so long I would want to know where she is too. Also this quote shows how much Elli has changed since the last time they saw each other, which tells you it's been a long time.

If I hadn't seen my brothers or Mom and Dad for that long I would also be as exited as Bubi was. I could tell it was a long time because Bubi couldn't really recognize his sister, Elli.

How would you feel in this situation? Explain?

I like how your first quote shows how the American teenagers have a total different life style and how they take things for granite, and then how Elli's lifestyle shows that they have to use everything to the fullest, and cant afford to just throw away a new pair of shoes because there is a slight rip or flaw.

I like your first quote and you really understood how Elli felt about the shoes. I also liked how you related it to the beginning of the book where she said that she had to walk miles with shoes that were two sizes to small for her. This is going to be a big change for Elli to go from torture to comfortable. Nice Job Gabe!

Question #1: If i were in Elli's shoes I also would be suprized and I would fix the shoes for her so she wouldn't be waisting money. I would also be shocked to see a good pair of shoes go to waist.

Question #2: I would feel very lost if i was in Bubi's position. He just went to America all by himself and he hasnt seen his sister or mom for that reason in a very very long time.

Quote # 1
I can totally understand why you pick this quote.I could also understand how Elli felt about the shoes just by reading how you explain how you felt about Elli and her shoes. I also liked how you related the quote to you and you explain how Elli felt about been in America while having a lot of different luxuries.

Question # 1
How do you think you would fell if you were in Elli's position?
I think I would feel really surprised ,and awkward because I feel like it would be really weird if you came from a really poor country where you had to reused most of your belonging's and them going into a really rich country where if you get a scratch on something you would buy a new one.

Quote # 2

I liked how put your self in Elli's situation and them you think about how you would of felt. I also liked how you related your feelings to Budi about him not seen his parents for a while.

Question # 2
How would you feel in this situation? Explain?
If I was on Budi's situation I think I would feel really depressed and anxious. I would be thinking about what my parents are doing at the moment and I think I would think back of some memories that me and my parents had in the past.
