Immigration Project Reflection

My lit circles book was pretty interesting. Sometimes it was hard to keep reading it, because it got a little boring, but overall it was ok. In my book I learned that just moving from one country to another was like getting a whole new life. I would make it so we still meet in person to talk about the book to make sure that everyone understands what’s going on. I like writing out the DJ better then posting on our blogs, because it makes me feel like we are actually reading the book with other people and we get to talk to them about it. I didn’t have problems but I would’ve liked to talk to the other people in my group, so I could ask them things about the book when I got confused. I learned that even though we were reading the same book we had different ideas of what was going on. Also about what some particular quotes meant.

When I was thinking of what to do I thought that the cover for my book didn’t really tell what the book is about, so I decided to make a new cover for my book (Hello, America). I think that my art piece shows some things from the book that tell the reader what the book is about, like the gas chambers, Statue of Liberty, and New York. I think that my final product could have been better if I wasn’t absent for some of the days we got to work on the paintings, but it turned out well. I think that my final product could have been better if there were thinner brushes. It was different to reflect through a painting but I liked it because instead of expressing the way I felt about the book I got to paint to express my thoughts.

My interview went smoothly because my immigrant responded to all my emails pretty much the next day. I had to meet my person after my interview was due because I was absent so I had to do it on Sunday. We met at Starbucks. It was not as hard as I thought it would be because my immigrant was very friendly and willing to answer all my questions. It worked out well because I learned a lot about him in my email interviews before I had to meet him in person. I felt more comfortable talking to him in person because I knew some things about him from the emails. In the first interview I learned that he was 22 when he came to America. In the second interview I learned that he came by himself to the United States to pursue higher education as an engineer. In the in person interview he told me that his dad is also an engineer and his mom is a housewife. We learned about “push” and “pull factors”. My immigrant immigrated because of a “pull factor” which was to get a better education. I will enjoy giving him a scrapbook that has photos of India that may bring back memories of living in India. I have also emailed to get some photos him on his trip to America. I hope sends them so I will be able to include these to make the scrapbook more personal.
